New FTC Guidelines, Important
Filed Under Affiiate Marketing | Leave a Comment
The FTC released new guidelines on October 5, 2009 that will likely impact you as an affiliate marketer. It is important that you review all of your product recommendations against these new regulations and change them as needed.
Here’s a link to the FTC page. There is a PDF document on the right side of the page which includes examples of what types of endorsements may be impacted by the changes.
Since I am not an attorney, I will not try to give you any advice, but here is a post from Frank Kern which you may find helpful:

Start Your Affiliate Marketing Career With A Strong Foundation
Filed Under Affiiate Marketing | 2 Comments
If you’re like many people who want to work from home, you’ve probably heard of all those entrepreneurs who work from home, earning their money on the Internet. Many of them make their living with affiliate marketing – that is, by promoting outside products and services, and taking a cut of each sale.
You might be wondering if it’s really possible to earn good money as an affiliate marketer. After all, if it were that easy, wouldn’t everyone be doing it? Actually, easy might be a bit of a misnomer. The truth is, like all worthwhile things, there is a learning curve and effort is required.
The best way to get off to a running start in affiliate marketing is to get the right training. As with any endeavor, you need a strong knowledge base so that you can build a solid affiliate marketing business. I’ve found that the best way to get this training is with the Commission Ritual program.
Commission Ritual isn’t the only program of its kind, but it’s one of the best. Some of the features that make it stand out from the rest include:
• Targeted, step by step information to walk you through the affiliate marketing process
• Cutting edge learning resources that take into account current market trends
• Tools to help you objectively evaluate a target demographic, sales approaches, and niche keywords
• Help from many seasoned affiliate marketers on the members-only forum who are willing to share their experiences with you
• Free strategies to earn money without having to first spend it
Let Brian Speak For Himself
Click this link to visit the official Commission Ritual site
The developer of Commission Ritual, Brian G. Johnson, has been in the business for more than seven years. He got his start with zero experience in affiliate marketing and a very small start up budget. He quickly learned the ropes and achieved great financial success in the field of affiliate marketing and launched Commission Riutal, helping thousands of others achieve the same success.
While this program comes highly recommended, it’s important to realize that building any kind of business of lasting value takes time and effort. This is no get-rich-quick scheme. What it will provide, however, is in-depth knowledge that you can use to create a secure financial future, if you are willing to put forth the effort. Apart from the knowledge you’ll gain, the combined wisdom of successful affiliate marketers who frequent the CR Inner Circle forum is perhaps the biggest advantage of membership.
In sum, the Commission Ritual program was developed by an honest, hard-working affiliate marketer who provides real strategies for your success. He don’t sugarcoat the work required to build an affiliate marketing business, and he recognizes the value of mentorship and on-going support. For all of these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend the Commission Ritual program for those who are serious about getting started in affiliate marketing.

Before you join an affiliate program, there are a few questions that you should ask.
Is there a cost to join? Nearly all affiliate programs in today’s market are absolutely free. Especially when first starting out and funds are limited, there is no reason that you would need to pay in order to join an affiliate program.
When and how often are commission checks issued? Each company will have its own rules. The two most common options are once a month or on the 1st and 15th of the month. Check to make sure you understand any payout restrictions based on a minimum amount of earned commissions.
How many hits does it take to get a sale – the hit/sale ratio? This factor is highly significant because this will tell you how many hits you must get you can earn a commission from the transaction.
How will they track the referrals from your site and for how long will they stay in the system? You want to have confidence that the affiliate company has a solid mechanism for tracking the people that you refer to their program or product. After all, these statistics determine whether you get credit for the sale. The length of time that those people stay in the system as your referral is also important because some visitors don’t buy on the first visit but could come back later and make a purchase. You want to get credit for the subsequent sale if possible.
What type of statistics will the program provide? You want online real-time detailed stats. You will be most interested in knowing the number of impressions, hits and sales generated from your affiliate site.
Does the affiliate program provide other incentives? Do they pay for impressions or hits or only for sales? Getting paid for hits or impressions will increase your earnings.
How much can you find out about the merchant? Is it a solid company? Are they offering quality products? Do they provide good customer service? Do they have an affiliate manager who is easy to reach?
Does the company pay on one or two levels or tiers? A single tier plan only for the sales that you personally generate. A two tier program pays you commission for your transactions as well as a smaller commission on transactions generated by affiliates that you refer to the program.
Lastly, what is the commission rate? You can usually get up to 75% for digital products. Companies that sell physical products are more likely to pay commissions in 5% – 20% range. Hits may bring .01% – .05%.
Take the time to complete your due diligence before choosing an affiliate program. Make sure that the company and the terms that they offer are suitable for your situation.

Affiliate Marketing Makes It Easy To Start An Online Business
Filed Under Affiiate Marketing | Leave a Comment
If you have been interested in starting an online business, you may be running into terminology that is entirely new to you. You may also find that the choices are so numerous that it is overwhelming. This article provides some insight on a way to get started.
AFFILIATE MARKETING – FAST AND EASY START
Why would marketing affiliate products be the fastest and easiest way to get started with an online business? Before I answer that question, let’s take a look at a typical business start-up. First of all, with any business you must have a product or service to market. You (or someone) must create this product or service and then you must be able to fill the orders.
If your business is online, then you will need a website. That means learning how, or hiring someone, to create the website, write the ad copy, develop a marketing strategy, set up a method of collecting payments as well as delivering the product or service.
If you’re selling a physical product, then you will need to manufacture or buy the item, package it and pay for shipping costs.
If you provide a service, then you will likely have to start by building your credibility, sometimes working for free until you have collected some suitable testimonials. Then, when you are able to start charging for your service, you will find that you are limited by the amount of time that you have available.
THE BEAUTY OF AFFILIATE PROGRAMS
Selling affiliate products is a great way to get started in an internet business. In fact, there are many people making full-time incomes using affiliate programs. So, what ARE affiliate programs?
Using affiliate programs, you sell another company’s service or product and they pay you a commission on every sale or lead. You are not required to build a website or handle the actual transaction. Your task is to send customers to the merchant’s offer using your affiliate link.
An affiliate link is a special URL code that tells the merchant that the customer visited their site and made a purchase as a result of your advertising. It is usually a website address with a code attached to the end. Some affiliate programs pay on multiple levels. That means if someone uses your link to sign up to also sell the product or service, you get a small percentage of THEIR earnings.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A PROGRAM?
You can start by researching the popularity of some products in areas in which you are already interested or have some expertise. Then, determine if people are actually buying that product or service. There are many tools available to help find this information. I will talk more on this topic in later articles. When you have found a popular area of interest, then type the subject along with ‘affiliate program’ into your search engine to find merchants who may have products that you can sell. There are also affiliate program directories that you can find by using search engines.
When you find a product that looks interesting, read the terms and conditions of the program carefully. Make sure that you are comfortable with the minimum level of sales needed before the merchant will pay you. Look for products or services with a high commission rate. Digital products usually have the highest rates because there are no manufacturing or shipping charges to pay. When you are satisfied with the terms and conditions, then it’s time to sign up – usually a simple process.
START SELLING
Affiliate programs are wonderful for beginners because you only need to focus on driving traffic to the merchant’s sales copy or the product or service. The merchant takes care of the rest of the transaction. Many merchants provide tools for their affiliates to help the affiliates get started marketing quickly. These tools can include banners, product feeds, ads, sales letters, email campaigns and other traffic generation techniques. As you gain experience in marketing you will make adjustments to fit your personal style and create fabulous income!
